Dan Participates in 2016 IARC Summer School

Jul 5, 2016 - CSL

Dan's idea of field work.

From July 11-23, CSL PhD student Dan Vecellio will be attending the International Arctic Research Center's annual summer school at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Congratulations, Dan, for being selected to particiate in this program!

The IARC Summer School program "brings young scientists, graduate and undergraduate students, and adult learners together with experts in a wide range of topics of Arctic science for extended periods of study and interaction." This year's program, entitled "Modeling the Arctic Climate System," will cover how the ocean, land, and atmosphere in high latitudes interact and how the complexity of those feedbacks provides challenges in simulating the state of the Arctic in coupled climate models. In addition to lectures from experts in the field, Dan will be working on a mini-project that will hopefully be incorporated into his dissertation research on the land-atmosphere interactions in frozen ground areas. He will also have the opportunity to go into the Cold Regions Research and Laboratory's Permafrost Tunnel and visit the Poker Flat Research Range just outside of Fairbanks.
